Alanya

Alanya is a tourism district of Antalya province, located in Turkey’s Mediterranean region. It is 154 kilometers away from the provincial center. Situated on Turkey’s southern coastline, Alanya covers an area of 1,598.51 km² and, according to TÜİK population data, had a population of 364,180 in 2022. Administratively, Alanya is part of Antalya province, and both Alanya Municipality and the district fall under the jurisdiction of Antalya Metropolitan Municipality. Alanya Gazipaşa Airport, located 45 kilometers away, has been operational since 2012.

Strategically, Alanya is a small peninsula along the Mediterranean coast, with the Taurus Mountains to its north. Throughout history, Alanya has served as an important fortress in the Mediterranean for empires such as the Romans, Byzantines, Seljuks, and Ottomans. During the Seljuk period, under the rule of Sultan Alaeddin Keykubad I, the region gained geopolitical significance. Some of the city’s most iconic landmarks, including the Red Tower, the shipyard, and Alanya Castle, were built during this time.

The region has a Mediterranean climate, with mild winters and hot summers. Alanya accounts for 9% of Turkey’s tourism industry and 30% of foreign property purchases in the country. Tourism became the most dominant sector in Alanya, especially after 1958, leading to a significant population increase. Its warm climate makes it ideal for various sports and cultural activities.
