Antalya Merkez

Antalya is the central city of Antalya province. It is considered the "capital of tourism" in Turkey. The number of tourists increases especially during the summer months.

After 1980, Antalya rapidly developed due to favorable climatic conditions and tourism activities. Consequently, the province has become Turkey's fifth most populous province today. The economy of Antalya is largely based on trade, agriculture, and tourism.

The region covered by Antalya province has hosted many civilizations from prehistoric times to the present and is the province with the most ancient cities in Turkey. Throughout history, Antalya has been under the rule of the Lycians, Lydians, Pamphylians, Pergamenes, Romans, Byzantines, Seljuks, Ottomans, and finally the Republic of Turkey, but it has never served as a capital for any of these civilizations.

Antalya hosted the 2015 G20 Summit and Expo 2016.
