Fethiye Transfer
Fethiye is a district in the western part of the Mediterranean Region, belonging to the Muğla province. It has an area of 3,059 km², making it the largest district in Muğla province. It is bordered by the Seydikemer district to the east, the Mediterranean Sea to the south, southwest, and west, Dalaman district to the northwest, and Çameli district of Denizli province to the north. The district of Fethiye, which includes the ancient city of Telmessos, is located on the eastern side of Fethiye Bay and in the southwest of the Fethiye Plain. The coastal road, which connects İzmir-Muğla to Antalya, passes just 1 km east of Fethiye, and the distance to the provincial center Muğla is approximately 130 km.
Fethiye has experienced several major earthquakes. A significant earthquake occurred in 1856. However, on April 24, 1957, at 19:10, a 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck, followed by another one at 04:25 on April 25 with a magnitude of 7.3. These earthquakes resulted in 67 deaths and damaged 3,200 buildings. Fethiye was rebuilt, and today it has a modern port and marina. On January 14, 1969, a 6.2 magnitude earthquake occurred, causing injuries and structural damage to homes and businesses, but no fatalities. On June 10, 2012, a 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Ölüdeniz, causing structural damage but no casualties or financial loss.
