Kaleiçi Transfer
In 1972, the Antalya inner harbor and the Kaleiçi district were designated as a "Protected Area" by the "Real Estate Monuments and Antiquities High Council" due to their original structure. In recognition of the "Antalya-Kaleiçi Complex" restoration, the FİJET (International Federation of Journalists and Writers in Tourism) awarded the Golden Apple Tourism Oscar on April 28, 1984.
Today, Kaleiçi has become an entertainment hub with its hotels, guesthouses, restaurants, and bars. Kaleiçi's streets are narrow, often extending upwards from the port, towards the outer walls. The houses may vary according to the economic strength and intended use of their owners, but they share several common features:
- They are generally constructed with masonry stones and wooden connections.
- Each house has a street-facing side and a garden.
- There are very few windows on the street-facing side of the first floor, while the second floor features bay windows that blend with both the house and the street architecture.
- The bay windows are often decorated with wooden carvings.
The central feature of these houses is the "Taşlık" (stone-paved area) that opens to the garden. These stone areas feature wooden benches for resting. These spaces provide access to both the ground floor rooms and the upper floors via a staircase. The ground floor serves as a service area, including rooms like a storage room and kitchen, while the upper floor is intended for living, with larger windows for brighter rooms.
Many houses in Kaleiçi have been restored to their original condition. Today, Kaleiçi has become a tourism center, featuring entertainment venues, guesthouses, restaurants, souvenir shops, and antique carpet shops. The most famous historical mosque in Kaleiçi is the Yivli Minare Mosque, which is also regarded as the symbol of Antalya.
